missing stop line

At the intersection of Landsborough Tce with Sylvan Road adjacent to the rail overpass bridge there is a dangerous situation for cyclists and other traffic. At this point there is a bike lane on both sides of Sylvan Rd. Landsborough Tce intersects with this bike lane. The stopping line on Landsborough Tce which prevents cars from stopping over the bike lane while waiting to turn left into Sylvan Rd has been allowed to vanish. Cars exiting from Landsborough Tce come to a stop too far out and can cause cyclists to have to swerve out into the regular lane on Sylvan Rd. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that Sylvan Rd narrows at this point to pass under the rail bridge and both sides of the bike lane markings have worn away and have not been re-marked. It also appears to that City Sights buses turn up this street. It is not certain if this is a regular route for the tourist bus, perhaps to see the Regatta Hotel, but maybe this is contributing to the rapid wear of the markings. The problem was brought to the attention of the BCC on 25 Nov 07. BCC responded that it would be repainted immediately if there was a risk to cyclists but gave no explanation as to why it was allowed to become so degraded. At this point (3 Dec) the outcome is unknown.
