Talk:Travelsmart Australia - Bikeability Toolkit

I believe this is fair use of these checklist forms as they were designed but I am checking Copyright issues with Travelsmart Australia. Kim - 10/11/06

I'm no copyright lawyer but I don't think this would qualify as fair use under the law, although it might be acceptable to Travelsmart. If you can get permission from Travelsmart to host the material then it's not a hassle (although it would need to be noted in the wiki that the material is still under copyright, as the wiki content as a whole is labelled as pubilc domain) but I don't see the advantage in hosting copies here over simply linking to the Travelsmart site. The documents are freely available there and we don't need to worry about copyright issues. -- Ian Lister 09:51, 11 November 2006 (EST)

Note the pre-existing Bikeability Toolkit page, which should be merged with this page. -- Ian Lister 09:51, 11 November 2006 (EST)

Yes started that page without checking for an existing stub, sorry, I recall the original mail from BQ. As for the copyright, you may be right, although the kit does encourage individuals to print out the form and use it, so I would think that if it is available for distribution on paper it is available for distribution in electronic form. I have asked them. I probably should not have worried about sticking the pdf's up there as the pdf format is not really suited to the wiki, I really wanted a plain text page with those relevant questions for browsing, which even their site does not offer. What I thought would be good was their resource list which is also a pdf format but has a good list of planning links in it. It was this list that concerned me most re copyright as I wanted to extract the list of links from the pdf. I did leave that page with just the link to their pdf. I will tidy that all up when i hear back from Travelsmart. kim 19:14, 11 November 2006 (EST)

Heard from TravelSmart folk and they gave the Ok to use the checklist documents on the Wiki. I will take another look at the resource list and checklist questions and think what is most useful for the Wiki. Perhaps the resource list in text with links and the checklist as external links to their PDF's. (You can probably guess I am not a fan of the PDF format on these open source resources) kim 17:40, 27 November 2006 (EST)

FYI - TravelSmart response -

It is fine to include the documents on the website as long as an appropriate acknowledgement of the Department of the Environment and Heritage is included. At present we have provided funding (along with the Cycling Promotion Fund) to the Bicycle Federation of Australia (BFA) to test the toolkit with Local Government and Bicycle User Groups around the country. There may be changes made to the toolkit arising out of this work. If that is the case, the documents will be changed on the TravelSmart website so perhaps a link would ensure that the most up to date versions can be accessed.
