Bikeway is a general term commonly used to refer to any kind of path or route designed specifically for bicycles. It generally includes:
- bicycle paths
- off-road paths for the exclusive use of bicycles
- separated paths
- off-road paths with bicycles and pedestrians segregated from each other
- shared paths
- off-road paths with bicycles and pedestrians co-mingled
- bicycle lanes
- on-road lanes for the exclusive use of bicycles
- protected bicycle lanes
- on-road lanes, separated from other traffic by a physical barrier
- bicycle awareness zones
- on-road areas marked to alert motorists to the presence of cyclists
