The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is the amalgamation of the previously separate Queensland Transport (responsible for public transport, integrated transport planning, licensing and enforcement, the latter in conjunction with the Queensland Police Service) and Department of Main Roads (responsible for many highways, major roads between towns and other roads of state significance). Other roads are the responsibility of local government.

TMR has a cycling section on its web site [1].

Cycling Policy

TMR's cycling policy is governed by the 2011 Cycling Infrastructure Policy, replacing the 2004 Cycling on State Controlled Roads policy. It is fairly lightweight but describes TMR's general official support for cycling and some of the process involved in planning for and supporting cycling on their roads [2].

Technical publications

Main Roads publishes a variety of technical publications, some of which are relevant to cyclists. Some of the more useful ones are the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and the Traffic and Road Use Management Manual [3].

An interesting resource on Queensland road crashes is the website WebCrash, which provides data, information and analytical tools. [4].
