Kedron - Gympie Rd - Car yards on footpath

All along the footpath on both sides of Gympie Road from Kedron right up to Chermside there are numerous advertising signs and cars for sale placed bang in the middle of the footpath. This presents an obvious hazard for wheelchairs, mobility vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians trying to use the footpath as it is intended. Numerous complaints have been submitted to the Council as well as the Councillors responsible for this area but still the practice continues. Whilst Council By-Laws do allow businesses to place up to two signs on a footpath immediately in front of their premises, these same rules state quite clearly that the signage must not hamper or cause danger to users of the footpath. Businesses face expensive liability claims in the event of somebody being hurt or caused damage as a result of these signs. By-Laws do not permit vehicles to be placed there and this is also a breach of the Qld Traffic Code. Council seems quite reluctant to uphold these By-Laws or to issue parking fines for these (usually unregistered) vehicles. The example depicted in the following photograph is on the in-bound side of Gympie Rd, just past Stafford Road. This section of Gympie Rd is particularly narrow with zero shoulder and a left turning lane and as such the footpath here is probably the most desirable place to be for a cyclist to ride.
