Kedron - Gympie Rd - Ads from Hell

The footpaths on Gympie Road can be potentially very dangerous or difficult to negotiate as a pedestrian but even worse for a user on a bicycle or mobility vehicle. Not only are shop advertising signs a big problem but the Council bus stops all feature large advertising panels which are arranged to provide high visibilty to sell products. The sometimes narrow footpath often leads right into these signs. The rear of the bus stops often are designed with clear transparent glass panels further protruding across the footpath. These can be a danger to cyclists especially at night when visibilty is poor. There is an ongoing campaign to have Council remove or rationalize these advertsing and bus stop placements. The primary advertising company having the lease on these bus stops is AdShel which is commonly referred to as AdsHell by the campaign organizers. The lease is believed to be a 25 year lease from Brisbane Transport, commenced circa 2000. The following pics show some of the more problematic placements and details of these bus stop shelters and advertisment panels from Adshel and others.
