Kangaroo Point - Confusing pavement markings
At Kangaroo Point there is a large picnic area at the bottom of the cliffs which form the old quarry. There is a roadway leading into this area as well as separate bikeway and pedestrian path. The area is very popular with picnickers using the barbeque facilities as well as rock climbers, joggers, small children and cyclists using the bikeway which links Southbank Parklands to Kangaroo Point as well as the Southeast Freeway bikeway. There are a number of safety issues here for all users. The poor design of some of the facilities does not help with providing safety. Some of the issues regarding pedestrian crossings of this bike way are detailed here. The nature of the pavement markings is not consistent on the bikeway and can cause some confusion. The following pictures show some of the different markings. The use of the arrow symbol is incorrect as it suggests a one way path.
