Indooroopilly - Julie St lack of signage
This entrance to the Western Freeway bikeway is from a side street (Julie Street) at Indooroopilly. The official bike entrance with the yellow grab rails features a "No pedestrians" sign making it obvious that pedestrians are not permitted on the bikeway. There are however 'other' entry points nearer to the adjoining footpaths on Julie St that provide convenient entry for pedestrians with no warning signs. The issue of not providing 'No pedestrians' signs at these entrances and the growing dangers of pedestrians on this high speed bikeway were raised with Main Roads on 24 Jul 06. It was also pointed out that a pedestrian had been killed recently in a collision with a cyclist in Brisbane and in Melbourne. Main Roads responded that they considered the 'No pedestrians' signs were redundant as there were "Bikes only" signs. The situation here contradicts MR's claim as one entry has both and the other has none.
The entrance to Julie Street from Taringa Parade is also signed as "No through road" despite leading to the entrance of a major bikeway. This is a common oversight made by the BCC where roads may be not be thoroughfares for car traffic but are routes for cyclists onto bikeways. Directional signage for the bikeway should be installed to inform cycle traffic using the Taringa Parade on-road cycle facility of this entrance. The standard auxiliary "Bicycles excepted" sign should also be installed below the "No through road" sign.
