Gladstone Road
Gladstone Road runs from Annerley Road in to Vulture Street and Cordelia Street in South Brisbane. The section between the Dutton Park cemetery and Dornoch Terrace forms part of the River ride.
Although it carries heavy motor traffic, much of Gladstone Road has combinations of wide kerbside lanes, Bicycle Awareness Zones and bike lanes that make it rideable for experienced road cyclists. On the climb up to Dornoch Terrace there isn't quite as much room and a ramp is provided for cyclists to join the footpath. As usual, more experienced road cyclists will prefer to stay on the road.
One amusing section has a combination of the above such that a "start bike lane" sign is followed with an "end shared path" sign, as shown below.
Starting as a narrow but properly signed bike lane...
..it quickly switches to BAZ markings and shared path signage...
...then a plain old BAZ...
...and finally a suggestion to get onto the footpath.
